First home studio shoot

Eger to try out the new Elinchrom D-Lite 4 kit along with the DIY home studio backdrop , I sweet-talked my girlfriend into posing for a few pictures. You can see her very impressed pose in the behind the scenes picture to the right. She was great though and we ended up with a good set of images for microsotck.

After testing a few different lighting setups I reverted to a classic one that allows the photographer to isolate his model on a white background without having to do a lot of time-consuming photoshop work. Set one light to light the white backdrop and one on my model with a reflector next to her to help fill in any shadow areas. Adjust the the light powers so that your backdrop is reading as 2 stops over exposed compared with the light on your model and this will give you a pretty clean white background and a well exposed model. It is ideal to light the background with more than 1 light, but I don’t have the luxury of being able to afford more at this stage. This setup can be demonstrated in the images below.
